Bortnet Email Hosting
What is Email Hosting and why should you use Bortnet?
When you register a domain (for example, "yourname.com"), in order to receive email
for addresses at that domain (for example, "firstname.lastname@example.org"), you will need an email hosting provider.
Bortnet Email Hosting offers this service.
Unlike most other email hosting providers, Bortnet strives to be simple to set up and simple to use. We offer
a secure place to store your email, where all connections are encrypted (over SSL or TLS), and only you
have access to your email.
Email hosting is made simple with Bortnet. Here is all you need to do:
- Register a domain with a domain registration service (for example, "yourname.com")
- Set the DNS MX record for that domain to point to mail.bortnet.com
- Create a new Bortnet mailbox (for example, "email@example.com")
Now, all you have to do is set up your new mailbox as an account in you email program, and you can receive emails for your new mailbox!
Bortnet Email Hosting offers the following features:
- Secure, encryted connections via TLS or SSL
- Ability to create Email Groups so that you can send emails to groups of recipients
- Accounts are based on the number of mailboxes, not the number of domains that you want to host!

What is the difference between POP and IMAP?
Both POP and IMAP are incoming email protocols that your email program uses to download your email from
the email server. The main difference is that POP email has just one server mailbox while IMAP supports many server mailboxes that mirror
the mailboxes in your email program. With IMAP, all mail stays on the server, while with POP, you can choose to remove the email from the server after
you have downloaded it.
Does Bortnet support both POP and IMAP?
Yes. Bortnet supports both, so you can choose to use either one.
Do you support secure POP and IMAP?
Yes. All Bortnet accounts support POP and IMAP connections over SSL or TLS.
If I don't like the service, can I receive a refund?
Yes! If you are unhappy with the Bortnet Email Hosting service for any reason, we will give you a no-hassle refund
for the full amount of your payment of the previous billing cycle.
Do I need a separate account for each domain that I want to host email for?
No! With Bortnet Email Hosting you pay per mailbox, not per domain. This means that each mailbox can be for a different domain, if that
is what you choose to do.
Does Bortnet support a catchall mailbox for a domain?
Yes. As soon as you set up one mailbox for a domain, you will automatically get
a catchall Email Group that will receive all emails to all addresses for that domain that do
not have explicit mailboxes set up.
What are Email Groups?
Email Groups allow you to set up an address at your domain that will forward all email sent
to that address to one or more other addresses. This allows you to easily send out newsletters
or other group emails just by sending one email!
